Have any IPS owners experienced a clunk when going from drive to reverse or reverse to drive? I have approx 4800 mi on the car and was curious if this is just normal operation or possible issue with transmission. Also experience harsh downshifts at times especially 2nd to 1st .
Thanks!

My quest for the best sports car is finally over

This is my first post here. I’m really happy to have joined the family of Lotus owners this morning.

I started my quest to find the best sports car (for me!) in May 2014, trying to find the car (below $150,000) that would provide me with the absolute best driving experience, without any consideration for aesthetic, look, convenience or prestige. I thought I finally found it in a Cayman GTS. I took my time, did multiple test drives of the same cars to make my choice clear, with lots of facts to support my selection. I was ready to pull the trigger and place my order with all my options carefully selected. This was until one member on this forum gave me a hint about the Lotus Evora S. Once I passed the hurdle to find one to test drive. there was no turning back. It took 10 days to erase months of analysis leading me to the Porsche and get me to buy this incredible brand new car (see attached) built in April 2014, delivered in Toronto in August and waiting for me in an obscure showroom until now. I took delivery this morning and drove it all day.

The car is a 6MT with tech pack, sport pack and back-up camera. The interior is ebony black. Exterior colour is an experimental unique orange from Lotus (they didn’t have a name so it says “new orange” in my papers). It’s less bright and slightly darker than chrome orange.

I’m posting my story on this forum as this is where I may be “living” for the next little while. If you’re interested in getting a glimpse of the highlights of my quest, keep on reading.

First, let me introduce myself. I’m not a track driver by any means, just an enthusiastic driver. The cars I have owned over the last 5 years are a tuned 650hp CLS63 (MCT), a tuned 500 hp C63 (auto), an Audi TT (DCT) and a BMW 550 (MT).

As part of the quest for MY best sports car, I established the following evaluation criteria:
  • Power: I need to feel a decent amount of thrust given the kind of cars I’m coming from
  • Involvement: I’m the hero, not the car
  • Joy: The car needs to make me happy over and over again

The cars I included in my contender list are the most recent version available of the following:

1. Porsche Carrera S (7 speed pdk automatic)
2. Audi R8 V8 (6 speed manual)
3. Jaguar F-Type R (8 speed ZF automatic)
4. Porsche Cayman S (one 7 speed pdk automatic and another one 6 speed manual)
5. Lotus Evora S (6 speed manual)

Notably absent from my list were the Porsche GT3 (couldn’t find one to test drive) and the new AMG GT (not available yet). I didn’t care much for the Nissan GT-R and the latest Corvette but maybe I have missed something...oh well.

In summary, my ranking of the top 3 cars under each of the 3 criteria is as follows:

Power
1. Jaguar F Type R
2. Audi R8 V8
3. Porsche Carrera S

Involvement
1. Lotus Evora S
2. Porsche Cayman S
3. Porsche Carrera S

Joy
1. Jaguar F Type R
2. Lotus Evora S
3. Porsche Cayman S

Not a single car is ranking in the top 3 on all 3 criteria so this is why it has been so difficult to choose. So why the Lotus then?

- Power: Even though it didn’t make the top 3, it’s actually pulling harder than the Carrera S below 4,000 rpm. The power of the Evora S is available early in the rpm all the way to 5,000 from where the torque seems to drop a bit. I found the Cayman S underwhelming until you get north of 5,000 rpm. The Jaguar F Type R is the king in this category with its neck snapping power available anywhere on the rpm curve.

- Involvement: This Lotus is the poster child of “involvement”. When I was road testing it, I was not driving the car…I was the car. The pedals and the steering were an extension of my limbs. The road feel of this car is absolutely fantastic and that was the main differentiator from the Porsche models. The steering was incredibly accurate, even better than the Cayman. The manual transmission was not as smooth as the Cayman but not as “mechanical” as the R8. The car balance was as great as the Cayman. The suspension was amazingly compliant on bad road conditions (smoother than the Porsche Sport suspension x73), but without removing any road feel unlike the Porsche PASM. The Jag and the R8 are remarkably poor on the involvement front.

- Joy: The throttle of the Evora S in Sport mode is as responsive as the Porsche models in Sport+. The engine sound is not as loud as the Porsche models but has a more refined sound, kind of a hiss that reminds me the sound of exotic cars. Driving this car is really an event that you just want to repeat non-stop. Only the Jaguar F Type R with its huge exhaust sound, loud throttle blips and instant monstrous torque could top the Lotus in this category. The worst in this category was the R8 which seems to be completely sedate and deprived of any emotion.

Conclusion: The Evora S is quite something, a category in itself. Driving a Lotus is like graduating to the true sport car world. It’s difficult to compare to any other main stream cars as it is so different. After my second test drive, I looked at myself in the mirror and asked myself whether or not I was ready for this. I wanted to be the hero right? This car makes me feel like one but also offers me the potential of earning my credentials to eventually become a true sport car driver. The Cayman was great but the Evora is even better.

Hey guys so I just noticed that I have a perfect straight line of cracking in the same place where I was backed into. Looks like it's spread as well. About 2" now. I'm pretty upset. SCC was the company who did it and I'm wondering if insurance work is warrantied?

Hi All

I have a small oil leak from my oil sandwich plate around the base of my oil filter on my 2008 S240.

Is it possible to change the seals or O ring? Or will it need replacing as a whole part?

Cheers:bow:

Hello Everyone,

I have for sale my used front and rear Sector 111 Limited Gold Edition Ultradiscs. They are in perfect working condition and do not need to be resurfaced or replaced. They have never been tracked and only been lightly street used. Any scratches you see on the gold surface is covered by the wheel rim. I will be selling my Lotus soon and am removing parts.

I don't drive the Lotus often. They will be shipped in two separate boxes. Each box weighs about 24 ibs. The same boxes Sector 111 shipped them in. I am asking $890 shipped.

You will be saving money and will have the limited gold edition rotors. For additional info goto the Sector 111 website.

Good Luck and take care.

Rear ended at a stoplight! Advice?

Add our '07 Exige S to the list of cars hit.

Sitting at a light, turns green, woman behind me in a Yukon decides I wasn't quick enough and cracked the clam.

She is insured by Geico. Admitted fault on scene, police report filed, and her insurance company is taking responsibility. Unfortunately, I've heard nothing but awful things with dealing with Geico, and I know how astronomical the costs can be when it comes to replacing the clam.

Any advice/insight? Any other suggestions since it's going to be replaced? Widebody clams available?
