I was just made aware that Geoffrey Griffiths, founder of Treasured Motorcars in Reisterstown, MD, passed away last week from his battle with Alzheimers.
Many vintage collector car folks in the Mid Atlantic area knew Geoffrey and Treasured Motorcars well. I first met him in the early 90's when I owned my Esprit. His shop did all the things I couldn't...and that pretty much funded his son's campaigning a Shelby GT350 in vintage racing.
A Brit, he worked for Lucas and was assigned to work with Carol Shelby on the electrics in the early Cobras.
Visiting his shop was always a treat. Even if I was there to pick up my car, he'd say "Let's see, what have we got in the shop.." And take me on a tour. Maybe there would be a Bandini race car being restored, or a gullwing Mercedes. There were ALWAYS all manner of vintage Lotus, Jaguar, Rover, Aston, AC, you name it.
He owned for some time a Type 14 Elite, and late last year his daughter, who now runs the business, sold his beloved AC Aceca. She told me how they brought him to the shop so he could see it one more time, and how he lit up as it sat in it one last time.
One time I was there with my Esprit, and he asked me if I'd go with him to pick up a customer car. We went to get it in a Ferrari 350 he maintains for a customer. I got to drive it back as Geoffrey drove back the other car.
The mid atlantic collector car community has lost a fine patron.
